RANCHO MIRAGE: Teen arrested after sexual assault near park
RANCHO MIRAGE – Sheriff’s officials have arrested a 16-year-old who has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman near the Michael F. Wolfson Park in Rancho Mirage. The park is southeast of the intersection of Frank Sinatra and Da Vall Drives.
The assault was reported Thursday, Nov. 3. The teen was arrested four days after the alleged incident occurred on Nov 7, according to Riverside Sheriff Sergeant Mark Hoyt.
Deputies assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Rancho Mirage Police Station responded to a 911 call regarding the sexual assault at 5:48 p.m.
Deputies conducted an investigation into the reported assault. During their investigation, officials determined a Black male juvenile met the victim at the park. After the two met, the juvenile “befriended the victim and both walked to the wash area, west of the park where the assault took place,” Hoyt explained in a written press release about the investigation and arrest.
Based on the circumstances, investigators from the Palm Desert Station’s Investigations Bureau responded and assumed the investigation.
During their investigation, sheriff’s officials identified a 16-year-old male juvenile as the alleged suspect. The teenager resides in the city of Rancho Mirage. Investigators arrested him Nov. 7 at 9:00 a.m.
The teen was booked into the Indio Juvenile Hall on sexual assault charges, according to Hoyt.
