RIVERSIDE: Brothers arrested after auto-theft investigation
RIVERSIDE – Officers from the Riverside Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team arrested two brothers after a vehicle-theft investigation Thursday Nov. 17. The brothers were arrested in the 5400 block of Jones Avenue in the City of Riverside.
20-year-old Alfredo and 24-year-old Hugo Sanchez were arrested for a variety of charges, warrants and probation violations following the investigation.
Officers had previously stopped Alfredo in a vehicle they believed to be stolen, but could not confirm the vehicle was stolen because the owner was on vacation and unavailable for contact. At the time of the stop, Alfredo already had two prior convictions for possession of stolen vehicles and a felony conviction for possession of stolen property, involving a miniature horse.
Detectives later spoke with the owner of the vehicle and learned the vehicle had in fact been stolen while the owners were away on vacation.
On Thursday, Nov. 17, about 9 a.m., detectives and P.O.P. Team officers went to the Jones Avenue residence to arrest Alfredo for the auto theft case. When officials arrived at the residence Alfredo fled from the home on foot, but he was quickly apprehended by officers.
While searching the residence, officials found Hugo hiding inside the home and arrested him for outstanding warrants, including warrants related to two active stolen vehicle cases. Hugo also had several drug convictions and a prior stolen vehicle conviction.
During the search of the residence officers located a 9 mm Glock handgun. A records check revealed that the firearm had been stolen from a parked vehicle on Aug. 24, in the 11200 block of Westfall Lane in Riverside.
Both brothers were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
Alfredo Sanchez was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, child endangerment for leaving the firearm accessible to children in the home, and probation violations.
He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Nov. 21.
