RIVERSIDE: Moreno Valley man fights with, attempts to bite officer during robbery arrest
RIVERSIDE – A man who was caught stealing merchandise from a department store fought with and attempted to bite a Riverside police officer was arrested Wednesday, Jan 4. The incident began at a Walmart Supercenter in the 6200 block of Valley Springs Parkway in Riverside.
Riverside police officers responded to the department store about 7:40 p.m., after City of Riverside emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a man stealing store merchandise. The subject was later identified as Dwyone Tyrone Jackson, 33, of Moreno Valley.
When store employees confronted Jackson as he tried to leave the store with merchandise he had stolen, the 6’01, nearly 300 pound man assaulted them and fled the location.
Officers responding to the call located Jackson in a nearby field and gave chase.
When officers caught up with Jackson, he violently resisted arrest and attempted unsuccessfully to bite one of the officers. Despite his resistance, officers were able to safely take him into custody.
Officers arrested Jackson and booked him into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of robbery and battery on a police officer.
An online jail records search revealed Jackson is being held in lieu of $30,000 and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Jan. 6.
