MORENO VALLEY: Suspect in New Year’s Eve attempted murder arrested

MORENO VALLEY – Deputies arrested a Moreno Valley resident, accused of attempted murder after an early-morning stabbing left a victim in critical condition Saturday, Dec. 31. The violent incident happened shortly before 6 a.m., in the 15000 block of Eleanor Lane in Moreno Valley.

During their investigation, officials identified, located, and arrested Hugo Sanchez-Alonzo, 18, of Moreno Valley. He was found at a residence on Sultan Street in Moreno Valley Jan. 5. Investigators also arrested Hugo’s brother, identified as Augustin Sanchez-Alonzo, 21, of Moreno Valley, for conspiracy after the fact, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant James Rayls.

Both men were arrested about 4:15 p.m., and both were booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

The attempted murder investigation began when deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police station responded to 911 call from a citizen reporting an adult male lying in the street in front of a residence suffering from a stab wound. 

When deputies arrived they located the victim and confirmed he was suffering from a serious stab wound.

Firefighter/paramedics treated the victim at the scene before AMR medics transported him to an area hospital. He was listed in critical condition.

Deputies learned the suspect fled the area prior to their arrival.

Based on the circumstances, Moreno Valley Police Department investigators responded to and assumed the investigation.

An online jail records search revealed Hugo Sanchez-Alonzo was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a felony. He is being held in lieu of $1 million dollars and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice Jan. 9.
