TEMECULA: Man suffers major injuries in rollover accident near Lake Skinner

TEMECULA – A man sustained major injuries and had to be cut from his wrecked vehicle after it rolled several times Sunday, Jan. 8, according to CHP and Cal Fire officials.

The single-vehicle traffic accident happened near Lake Skinner in the 37700 block of Warren Road at the intersection of Borel Road in Winchester.

Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the accident about 3:26 p.m., after several people called 911 to report the accident.

Callers told Riverside County emergency dispatchers the victim was severely injured and was trapped inside his wrecked SUV.

Ten firefighters from three engine companies responded to the rollover traffic accident, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman.

When emergency officials began arriving, they found an SUV on its side.

Firefighter/paramedics determined the trapped victim had sustained major traumatic injuries and officials at the scene requested an air ambulance to respond to the location.

“There was a total of one patient who required extrication,” Newman explained in an update about 4:46 p.m. “It took 28 minutes to extricate the patient after firefighters arrived on scene.”

After the victim was safely extricated from his wrecked SUV, Mercy Air 3 airlifted him to an area hospital. Newman advised the victim was in serious condition when he was airlifted.

CHP officials, who are investigating the accident, later estimated the vehicle had rolled at least three times.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
