PALM DESERT: DUI suspected in rollover accident
PALM DESERT – A man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a single vehicle, rollover traffic accident Saturday, Feb. 4. The accident happened in the area of Edgehill Drive and Bursera Way in Palm Desert.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Palm Desert Police station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the accident about 2:18 a.m., after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a person reporting the rollover accident, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Mark Hoyt.
When deputies arrived they found a white Toyota pickup that had overturned. After flipping over, the truck came to rest on its wheels. The truck sustained major damage in the rollover accident.
Firefighter/paramedics evaluated the sole occupant of the vehicle, who was identified as 24-year-old, Tyger Newton Dodd. He was not injured in the wreck and he declined further medical treatment.
Deputies conducted an accident investigation and determined Dodd was traveling southbound on Hwy 74 at a high rate of speed. As Dodd attempted to turn onto Bursera Way from Edgehill Drive he lost control of his truck and it overturned.
Investigating deputies determined alcohol intoxication may have been a factor in the rollover accident, said Hoyt.
Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Dodd and he was booked into the Indio Jail for driving under the influence.
