MORENO VALLEY: DUI suspected in crash that injured four, one critically

MORENO VALLEY – Four people were injured, including one who was left in critical condition, when a vehicle smashed into a tree Monday, March 20. Officials believe alcohol and/or drug intoxication were contributing factors in the collision. The major-injury accident happened on Iris Avenue west of Oliver Street in Moreno Valley.

The accident forced the overnight closure of eastbound Iris Avenue, between Kaiser Hospital and Oliver Street, while authorities investigated the wreck. Officials reopened the roadway about seven hours later, at 5:40 a.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant William Stens wrote in press release the day after the accident.

Moreno Valley Police and Fire personnel and American Medical Response medics rushed to the scene of the traffic collision just before 11 p.m.

Emergency first responders arrived at the location within minutes and quickly located a vehicle that had collided with a tree.

“A passenger in the vehicle was found unresponsive, and was immediately transported by paramedics to a local hospital,” Stens explained. He was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle and two other passengers were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
