TEMECULA: Motor officer injured while arresting Temecula resident
TEMECULA – A Temecula motor officer suffered facial injuries while trying to subdue a probationer who was acting erratically and disrupting businesses Tuesday, March 21. The violent encounter happened near Promenade Temecula in the area of Ynez and Winchester Roads in Temecula.
Devynald Joseph Morrison, 22, of Temecula, was arrested and booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of resisting arrest with violence and causing injury to a peace officer. He was also charged with two counts of violation of probation.
The incident began about 2 p.m., when motorcycle officers from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Temecula Police Station responded to the area after numerous people called 911 to report the man’s irrational behavior.
“The department…received multiple calls concerning an erratic subject disrupting traffic and disturbing shoppers in local stores,” Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant William Pratt said in a written press release after the incident and arrest.
When officers arrived in the area they located the subject, later identified as Morrison, behind a business and attempted to detain him.
“Morrison fought the officers and attempted to take one officer’s baton,” Pratt explained. “The officers successfully defended the takeaway attempt and Morrison was arrested.”
One officer sustained facial injuries requiring medical attention during the violent confrontation, according to Pratt.
After he was in custody, Morrison was medically cleared and booked into jail.
An online jail records search revealed Morrison is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Southwest Justice Center March 23.
