The driver, who some witnesses described as elderly, told investigating officers she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal, causing her vehicle to accelerate forward into the tree.

The car, described as a newer, silver sedan, sustained moderate front-end damage in the collision.

Hemet Fire Paramedics and American Medical Response medics evaluated the driver at the scene. She declined further treatment.

Hemet police officers are investigating the cause of the non-injury accident.

The damaged sedan was later towed from the scene.
