PERRIS: Wreck with patrol vehicle sends one to hospital

PERRIS — One person was hospitalized after being involved in a traffic collision with an on-duty Sheriff’s deputy Wednesday, July 19. The accident happened while officers were responding to an emergency call for assistance.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Police Station were responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 1:44 p.m. The incident was happening in the 400 block of South D Street in Perris.

“As one of the officers was traversing the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Nuevo Road, he was involved in a traffic collision,” Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Edmondson explained in a written press release after the accident, which involved a Sheriff’s patrol vehicle and a Chevrolet mini-van.

“The driver of the mini-van had a complaint of pain and was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation,” said Edmondson, who said, “There were no other reported injuries related to the accident.”

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the location and conducted a traffic collision investigation, which caused the partial closure of the intersection while officials investigated the accident and documented the scene of the wreck.

The traffic collision investigation is active and ongoing.

Anyone with information on this investigation or who witnessed the crash is encouraged to call Sergeant Edmondson at the Perris Sheriff’s Station, (951) 210-1000. Callers can refer to incident file number PE172000078 and can remain anonymous.
