REDDING: Woman on bike stabbed multiple times behind City Hall

REDDING — A Redding area transient was arrested after she allegedly stabbed another homeless woman multiple times after an argument between the two led to the violent incident. The early morning stabbing happened along the canal to the east of Redding City Hall, Monday, Sept. 18.

After an investigation Redding police officers arrested 27-year-old, Sarah Emily Duran. She was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Redding Police Sgt. Shawn McGinnis explained in a written press release after the incident.

The investigation began just after 4 a.m., when the victim, later identified as 29-year-old, Michelle Annette Pruitt, flagged down a Redding police officer and advised she had just been attacked and stabbed.

Officers requested an ambulance to treat the victim “for multiple stab wounds,” to her left arm and the back of her head. “Pruitt was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center Emergency Room for further treatment and evaluation,” said McGinnis, who explained the victim’s injuries were not life threatening.

Pruitt described Duran and her clothing and another officer responding to the scene to assist quickly located her behind Redding City Hall where the attack had happened. She was arrested without incident.

During their investigation, officers learned Pruitt was riding her bicycle along the canal when she and Duran “exchanged hostile words prior to the stabbing,” McGinnis explained, saying it was “unclear why the incident escalated to violence, or even what the argument was about.”

“Alcohol influence is a likely factor,” said McGinnis.
