MORENO VALLEY: Officials investigating fatal back yard shooting
MORENO VALLEY — Authorities are investigating after a man was fatally shot in the back yard of a private residence. The deadly shooting happened Sunday, Sept. 24, on the 25000 block of Camino Castillo in Moreno Valley. The home where the shooting happened is south of Krameria Avenue and east of Kitching Street and less than one-quarter mile from Vista Verde Middle School.
Officials eventually interviewed a man who returned to the residence and admitted he had been involved in the incident, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Wallace Clear explained in a written press release.
The man, who has not yet been publicly identified, was cooperating with sheriff’s officials investigating the deadly shooting.
“This investigation is still ongoing and no arrest have been made,” said Clear.
The investigation began when deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station responded to the residence about 3:20 p.m., after receiving the report of a shooting at the location.
Deputies arrived at the home within minutes of the dispatched call and family members at the residence directed them to an adult male in the backyard. Deputies quickly determined the victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
“Lifesaving procedures were started by the officers until paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased,” said Clear. The victim has not been identified, pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family.
Based on the circumstances, investigators from the Moreno Valley Police Department and Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
Deputies cordoned off Camino Castillo and called in a mobile command center; which was parked nearby while deputies, investigators, forensic technicians, coroner’s officials and others conducted their investigation.
