PERRIS: Officials investigating fatal hit and run between semi-truck and motorcycle
PERRIS– Authorities are investigating a fatal hit and run traffic collision involving a tractor-trailer semi-truck that struck a motorcyclist, Saturday morning, Nov. 4. The early morning accident happened on eastbound Harley Knox Boulevard near Indian Avenue in Perris.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Police Station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the deadly collision at 5:53 a.m., regarding a report of a hit and run traffic collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant J.P. Strang explained in a written press release.
“The first arriving engine company reported a single patient who perished at the scene,” Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman explained in an incident report.
Officials have not identified the victim, pending notification of the man’s family.
During their initial investigation, sheriff’s officials determined a semi-truck pulling a trailer collided with a male riding a motorcycle.
“The motorcyclist was found unresponsive in the roadway and was pronounced deceased on scene,” Strang explained. “The driver of the semi-tractor with trailer fled the scene.”
Based on the circumstances, members of Perris Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the location and assumed the hit and run investigation.
During their investigation, deputies called for the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes of Harley Knox Boulevard near Indian Avenue. The roadway was re-opened to regular traffic several hours later.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
