MORENO VALLEY: Victim of Dec. 8 shooting dies at hospital, suspect arrested

MORENO VALLEY — A 20-year-old, Moreno Valley resident who has been hospitalized since being shot Friday, Dec. 8 succumbed to his injuries and died Thursday, Dec 14. A man who was arrested the day of the fatal shooting remains in custody, held on $1 million bail. He now faces murder charges related to the deadly incident.

The shooting happened at the Santiago Estates Sunnymead mobile home park, on the 25300 block of Santiago Drive, in Moreno Valley, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Ben Ramirez explained after the victim’s death.

Officials later identified the victim as Pierre Amar.

After Amar’s death, the Central Homicide Unit was notified and assumed the investigation.

“Amended charges of murder will be requested with District Attorney’s Office,” said Ramirez.

The homicide investigation began when deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence at 4:58 p.m. The 911 caller told emergency dispatchers that the shooting had just occurred.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found a shooting victim, later identified the victim as Pierre Amar, inside a home. Officials summoned medical personnel who rendered first aid to the critically injured victim and transported him to an area hospital for further treatment and life-saving efforts.

Deputies investigating the deadly shooting identified several witnesses and Moreno Valley investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Based on evidence and witness statements, officials located and arrested Charles Edward Clayton Jr., 53, of Moreno Valley.

He was later booked at Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted murder with malice, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. His bail was set at $1 million.

His next scheduled court appearance has been set for Dec. 26, at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
