RIVERSIDE: Motorcyclist killed after colliding with vehicle in intersection

RIVERSIDE — A motorcyclist died after colliding with a sedan preparing to make a turn, Tuesday, Jan. 2. The deadly accident happened at the intersection of Arlington Avenue at Division Street in Riverside.

City of Riverside Police and Fire personnel along with other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the crash at 5:51 p.m., after City of Riverside emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls reporting a vehicle versus a motorcycle traffic collision.

When they arrived, officials determined the motorcyclist had sustained major, traumatic injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased about twenty minutes after the accident happened.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s officials later identified the victim as Brandon Limon, 21, of Riverside. According to a coroner’s release Limon was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m.

While firefighters evaluated and treated the motorcycle rider and other driver, members of Riverside PD’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded and investigated the cause of the deadly crash.

During their investigation, officers determined a 61-year-old, Moreno Valley resident was driving a gray Nissan Altima southbound on Division Street and stopped at the posted stop sign at Arlington Avenue.

The driver then pulled into the intersection to make a left turn onto eastbound Arlington Avenue just as Limon, who was travelling westbound on a red, Yamaha motorcycle, entered the intersection and crashed into the side of the Nissan.

After the accident, AMR medics transported the Nissan driver to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The driver’s injuries were described by officials as non-life threatening.

At this time, drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the crash, according to officials.
