MORENO VALLEY — Authorities this morning announced the arrest of two men in connection with the Christmas eve shooting of two people that ended the life of at least one of the two victims. The deadly shooting happened in the parking lot of Rio Rancho Supermall at 25211 Sunnymead Blvd., southeast of Sunnymead and Perris boulevards, in Moreno Valley.

Although officials previously stated that one victim died as a result of last Monday’s shooting, both alleged suspects have been booked on suspicion of two counts of first degree murder, indicating the second victim may have also succumbed to their injuries. A request for confirmation sent to the Sheriff’s Media Information Bureau had not been responded to as of this report.

Deputies assigned to Moreno Valley Police Department began investigating the Dec. 24 shooting after receiving reports of shots fired outside the mall shortly before 5:30 p.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Walter Mendez explained as the homicide investigation was getting underway. Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit and Moreno Valley PD investigators soon assumed the investigation.

The victim was later identified as Noe Reyes, 25, of Moreno Valley. He died at Moreno Valley’s Riverside University Health System as a result of the injuries he sustained during the shooting. 

Based on information and leads developed during their investigation, on Thursday, Dec. 27, investigators with the Central Homicide Unit, Major Crimes Unit, and Moreno Valley Special Enforcement Team, served a search warrant in the 900 block of E. Williams St., in Banning.

During the service of that warrant, officials located and detained Marius Reno Metoyer and Carl Dashawn Johnson. Both are 18-years-old, and live in Moreno Valley, Mendez explained in an updated release from the sheriff’s department .

While searching the home, officials located and seized “several firearms” as well as “additional evidence” related to the murder investigation, according to Mendez.

Based on their investigation, officials arrested both Metoyer and Johnson for Reyes’ murder. The two men were later booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on two counts each of first degree murder. According to Mendez, charges of gang enhancement allegations and use of a firearm would be included in the suspects’ charges.

Both men remain in custody and are being held without bail and the pair is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall of Justice, Jan. 3.

Online jail records indicate that at the time of the deadly shooting Metoyer was out of jail on $10,000 bail, related to another Moreno Valley PD arrest on Nov. 9.

He was released Nov. 12 – after spending just three days in jail – after he was booked on suspicion of two felony charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition. No other details or information about that arrest were immediately available.
