EASTVALE: Woman, 81, hospitalized after robbed of “large sum of money” in her garage

EASTVALE — An 81-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was confronted and robbed of her purse after pulling into the garage of her home, Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 10. The robbery and attack happened on the 6200 block of Arcadia Street, southeast of the intersection of Limonite and Harrison Avenues, in Eastvale.

Yesterday’s robbery was reported just one and one half miles west of a Ralph’s grocery store where another woman was robbed at gunpoint four days earlier, shortly after midnight, Saturday morning, Jan. 6.

Officials have not stated the incidents were related; however the two incidents have Eastvale area residents on edge and both investigations are still active and ongoing.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Eastvale Police Station responded to the residence just before 5 p.m., after receiving a 911 call reporting the robbery, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Portillo explained after the incident and investigation.

Investigating deputies arrived within minutes of the dispatched call and found the 81-year-old victim.

“The incident occurred in her garage after the victim exited her car to walk inside the house,” said Portillo. “As a result of the robbery, the victim received a non-life-threatening injury. She was treated at a local area hospital.”

According to Portillo the elderly victim’s purse contained a “large sum of money.” Officials did not specify the amount stolen from the victim or speculate how the suspect might have known the victim was in possession of the cash.

Due to the ongoing investigation, which is still in it’s early stages, officials have not released any additional details.
