PERRIS: Two drivers seriously injured in DUI-related, head-on crash
PERRIS — Two drivers were hospitalized with major injuries after a head-on, traffic collision, Sunday night, Jan. 14. Prior to the crash authorities were notified about one of the two motorists driving in an “erratic” manner, according to officials. Before they could respond and locate the erratic driver, officials were notified regarding the DUI-related collision, which happened on Goetz Road in Perris.
Emergency first responders rushed to the scene of the wreck at 6:18 p.m., after they were notified regarding the crash by a 911 caller. The caller told emergency dispatchers that a blue, Lincoln sedan had collided head-on into a tan, Toyota Corolla, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant J.P. Strang explained after the crash.
According to Strang, deputies had already received at least one call from a “concerned citizen” reporting the same Lincoln driving recklessly.
When they arrived at the scene of the wreck, officials found the two heavily damaged cars. Medical personnel determined both drivers sustained “major, but non-life-threatening injuries” as a result of the collision and they were transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries, according to Strang. Both drivers were later admitted for further evaluation and treatment.
The driver of the Lincoln, 58-year-old, Menifee resident, Turbie Williams, is suspected of driving while under the influence; however, because of the nature and extent of his injuries deputies released him to the care of the hospital.
“Felony DUI charges will be sought against Williams with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office”, said Strang.
Goetz Road was closed for two hours while deputies investigated the cause of the crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation or who witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact Deputy Cail at the Perris Sheriff’s Station at (951) 210-1000. Callers can refer to incident file number PE180140112 and can remain anonymous. Citizens may also submit a tip using the Sheriff’s CrimeTips online form.
