CITY OF SHASTA LAKE: Lost boys get a little help from above
CITY OF SHASTA LAKE — Two young boys who got lost while riding their bicycles on trails in the Shasta Lake City area got a helping hand from above – in the form of a CHP aviation crew that spotted them and helped guide ground deputies to where they were. Neither boy was injured and both made it home safely after the incident.

Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the City of Shasta Lake were dispatched to the area around 6 p.m., after the boys became lost and used a cell phone to call 911 and ask for help.
Because of the time of evening and growing darkness, deputies requested assistance from CHP’s Aviation Unit. CHP’s H-16, which was already in the area, responded to assist with searching from overhead.
When they arrived in the area shortly after 6:15 p.m., aviation members used a FLIR device to quickly locate the heat-signatures put off by the boys in spite of the darkness. After spotting the bicyclists, officials instructed them to stay where they were so the aviation spotter could guide ground deputies in to their location.
Aviation members soon guided a deputy to where the boys waited and the deputy helped lead the cold, but otherwise uninjured pair back to the safety and relief of their waiting family members.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 27 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 14 grandchildren.
