UPDATED: HEMET: Woman, 49, fatally struck while jaywalking across San Jacinto St ID’d

HEMET – Officials have identified a woman killed while attempting to cross San Jacinto Avenue late last night. Despite life-saving efforts the victim died at the scene.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials identified Jane Dasilva, 49, of Heme, as the woman killed in the collision. According to a coroner’s release Dasilva succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased about seven minutes after the call was dispatched and her time of death was listed as 10:22 p.m.
Hemet PD is still investigating the fatal collision and the department has not released any information regarding the accident.

HEMET — Despite life-saving efforts, a pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle earlier this evening. The victim was hit while attempting to cross a dark, unlit section of road on the 600 block of N. San Jacinto Ave., just south of E. Menlo Avenue.

Because the fatal accident happened near the border of Hemet and San Jacinto, emergency first responders from both cities were sent to the accident.

City of Hemet and San Jacinto PD’s, Hemet Fire and Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Departments, and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the deadly crash just before 10:15 p.m., after receiving reports of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian. 911 callers reported the victim was down in the roadway and was not moving or breathing.
Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found the victim’s lifeless body in the northbound lanes of San Jacinto Ave, near Allesandro Center and the Hemet San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce.
Evidence at the scene indicated the pedestrian had not been using a marked crosswalk, despite the fact that the victim’s body was less than 400 feet from the nearest intersection, which has four marked and well lit cross walks.
A silver coupe with front-end damage sat in the middle of the roadway and the vehicle’s driver stood nearby, watching in stunned horror by what had just happened.
Officers immediately began CPR and continued until paramedics arrived and took over life-saving efforts. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials have not released the pedestrian’s name, pending identification and notification of the victim’s family.
Officials called for the complete closure of State St., and redirected traffic away from the scene of the accident. Officials at the scene advised San Jacinto St. would remain closed for several hours.
Hemet PD is investigating the fatal crash and have not released any information regarding their active and ongoing investigation.
