REDDING: Expired registration stop yields drugs, stolen property, cash – local man arrested

REDDING — A traffic stop for a vehicle code violation resulted in a Redding man’s arrest yesterday afternoon after the alleged suspect was found in possession of drugs, stolen property, and a large amount of cash, according to officials.

After their investigation, authorities arrested 52-year-old, Rile John Fifer. He was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of transportation of methamphetamine and heroin, possession of methamphetamine and heroin for sales, and possession of stolen property, according to a Redding PD social media release.

The investigation began in the late afternoon when officers assigned to Redding PD’s Neighborhood Police Unit conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for expired registration.

During the stop, a Shasta County Sheriff’s K-9 responded to the scene to assist and the dog “alerted to the presence of drugs” inside the vehicle, according to officials.

Officers searched Fifer’s vehicle and discovered “over an ounce of heroin, 18g of methamphetamine, and $5,700 cash,” the release explained. A “significant amount” of property that officers believed was stolen was also found and seized by officers during the search.
