PERRIS: 59-year-old Van Nuys man killed crossing Ramona Expressway not using cross walk: officials
PERRIS — A 59-year-old Van Nuys resident died after he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross Ramona Expressway, Thursday night, May 31. The fatal accident happened just west of N. Perris Boulevard in Perris. The victim was not using a marked cross walk when he was fatally struck, according to officials.
Deputies assigned to the Perris Police Department and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the accident about 8:47 p.m., after the driver who struck the man called 911 to report the collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Marshall explained in a written press release.
When officials arrived they found the gravely injured man down in the roadway with major injuries. Paramedics rushed him to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley. The victim, who officials have not named, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
Based on the circumstances, Perris PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. During their investigation, officials called for the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes of Ramona Expressway.
“The preliminary investigation showed the motorist, a 33-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, was westbound on Ramona Expressway and collided into a pedestrian,” Marshall explained, continuing, “The pedestrian was not found to be near a cross walk at the time of the collision.”
The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene of the deadly collision and was cooperating with officials conducting the investigation.
The driver was not injured and deputies determined he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Anyone with information about this collision and has not been interviewed is encouraged to call Deputy Kiebach at the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1074. Callers can refer to incident file number PE181510132 and can remain anonymous.
