Hemet woman, 26, fatally ejected in San Bernardino rollover crash, ID’d
SAN BERNARDINO — A woman who died after her vehicle struck a center divider, left the freeway, and overturned, died at the scene, according to sheriff and coroner officials. The early morning, solo-vehicle accident happened June 15, on Interstate 10, near Tippecanoe Avenue and west of Splash Kingdom Water Park, in San Bernardino.
After striking the center divider, the victim’s grey pickup truck careened across the freeway and through a chain-link fence, where it went about 50 feet off the roadway into a field. The truck then overturned – ejecting the victim – and landed on its side, officials later reported.

The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office later identified Daisy Martinez, 26, of Hemet, as the victim who died in the violent wreck. According to officials, the victim was not wearing a seat belt, causing her to be ejected from her overturning vehicle. Martinez sustained major traumatic injuries that resulted in her death, officials have stated.
California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the crash just after 3:30 a.m., after other motorists and witnesses called 911 to report the rollover accident.
When they arrived, officials found Martinez near her overturned pickup in a field off the roadway. All five lanes of the freeway were blocked by vehicle parts and a grey Honda was damaged after running over debris that was left scattered across the interstate. Another vehicle described as a tractor-trailer big-rig was stopped nearby and somehow involved; however, it was not immediately known what part the truck played in the deadly crash.
Despite life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics, CHP and coroner’s officials later explained.

During their subsequent investigation, CHP determined Martinez was driving her 2007 Chevy Silverado westbound on the 10 Freeway when she struck the center divider, careened off the interstate, and overturned in a field south of the freeway. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the truck, causing her fatal injuries, according to officials.
During their investigation, CHP issued a SigAlert and closed down three of the interstate’s lanes, while they investigated the cause of the fatal crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
