MORENO VALLEY: Officials investigating attempted murder after two shot outside bar

MORENO VALLEY — Officials are investigating an attempted murder that left two men hospitalized in critical condition early Sunday morning. The double shooting happened outside the Shark Bar at 24801 Sunnymead Blvd., between Indian St. and Perris Blvd., in Moreno Valley.

The business where the shooting occurred features a full bar with shark-themed drinks, half a dozen pool tables, and sports shown on 20 screens, as well as nightly entertainment and dancing and is located inside a small strip mall that features several other businesses.

The bar was the only business open when the incident happened and was getting ready to close when the shots rang out.

Deputies assigned to Moreno Valley Police Department responded to multiple reports of a shooting shortly before 1:20 a.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Koehler explained after the incident.

When deputies arrived they found one person at the scene suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds,” said Koehler, who explained, “Officers immediately began rendering first aid until lifesaving efforts were assumed by medical professionals.”

Witnesses reported that the other person involved in the shooting was “in a moving vehicle fleeing the scene of the shooting,” explained Koehler. That person was later located at an area hospital after being driven there by acquaintances.

Both subjects were admitted with critical injuries. Neither has been publicly identified and citing their ongoing investigation, officials have not specified a known motive for the incident or what might have led to the shooting.

Based on the circumstances, Moreno Valley PD’s Special Enforcement Team responded to the scene and has assumed the ongoing investigation, according to the Sgt., who explained that due to the circumstances surrounding the shooting no further details will be released at this time.
