City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments along with other emergency first responders were dispatched to the 4000 block of Bordeaux Ln. about 4:15 p.m., after receiving reports that a car had crashed into a home.
When officials arrived at the scene they found a black Toyota Corolla that had crashed into the corner of a home’s attached garage. Both the small sedan’s front-end and the corner of the home’s garage sustained moderate damage.
Both the boy and his mother as well as the occupants from the home appeared shaken, but uninjured in the crash. Firefighters quickly determined nobody required medical treatment and cancelled AMR’s response to the scene.
Hemet PD officials investigating the cause of the accident determined the car’s two occupants were traveling northbound on Meridian St. when the teenage driver attempted to make a left turn onto Bordeaux Ln.
The driver, who has not been identified due to his age, reportedly confused the brake and clutch pedals in the manually transmissioned car and lost control of the vehicle. The sedan drove up and over a curb and across a home’s front lawn, before crashing into the corner of the home’s garage.
Witnesses at the scene later advised the boy had a learner’s permit and was legally in control of the sedan at the time of the crash.
The full cause of the accident is still under investigation and Hemet PD’s investigation is ongoing.
