HEMET –Officials today announced the arrest of a 22-year-old Hemet man in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old who died after being shot in the head last week at a home on the 1100 block of Stepstone Ct.

The deadly shooting happened July 13, in the Stoney Mountain Ranch community on the north-west end of Hemet, near Warren Road and Esplanade Ave.

Following four days of interviews and investigation, members Hemet PD’s Investigations Bureau arrested Vincent Calderon Tuesday afternoon, July 17, for the shooting death of Sequoyah Gavin. According to Hemet Police Lt. Eddie Pust, Calderon was arrested about 4 p.m.

Pust did not specify if there was a known motive for the shooting or if there were any extenuating circumstances related to the fatal incident.

As of this report, Calderon had not been booked into jail but his bail was expected to be set at $1 million.

HEMET — Officials are at the scene of a shooting that left a person dead in a Hemet residential neighborhood earlier this evening. Officials on the 1000 block of Stepstone Ct. near Silkstone Dr., southeast of Esplanade Ave. and Warren Rd., have not yet specified if they are investigating a homicide, suicide, or an accidental shooting, but their investigation is still in it early stages.

City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel, responded to the Stoney Mountain Ranch neighborhood around 8 p.m., after Riverside County emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a shooting inside a home.

The call was quickly re-routed to City of Hemet’s Emergency Communication’s Center and dispatched, bringing officers and deputies from throughout the city and around the surrounding unincorporated community.

When the first officers arrived they made entry into the home where the shooting happened and quickly located a male victim who lay bleeding from the head inside the residence.

Officers immediately began CPR and life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Within minutes, more than a dozen patrol and other official vehicles had converged on the neighborhood, along with several fire apparatus and an AMR ambulance.

As the investigation was getting underway, detectives were summoned to the scene, while officers and deputies on the ground with assistance from an aviation crew overhead, searched for a person who was reportedly seen fleeing from the home.

Officials have not provided any details yet about the person they were searching for, who has not yet been located.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials later responded to the home and were assisting Hemet PD with their investigation, which is active and ongoing.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 27 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and has 13 children and 14 – soon to be 15 – grandchildren.
