PERRIS: Bicyclist killed in early morning accident was trying to cross street

PERRIS –A bicyclist who was reportedly riding within the lanes of traffic was fatally struck early Friday morning, July 13. The deadly collision happened near the intersection of Perris Blvd. and Ramona Expressway, in Perris.

Officials have not released the victim’s name, pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family.

Deputies assigned to the Perris Police Station and other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the deadly collision at 5:45 a.m., after receiving reports of a vehicle that had struck a bicyclist, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant K. Lamb explained after the deadly collision.

“Officers arrived on scene within minutes, along with personnel from Cal Fire, and found the subject lying in the roadway,” said Lamb. “Life saving measures were begun and the subject was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.”

Based on the circumstances, members of Perris PD’s Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During their preliminary investigation Traffic Team members determined the accident happened when a northbound vehicle on Perris Blvd. struck the victim as he attempted to ride his bicycle across the northbound lanes.

While officials investigated the fatal collision, they called for the temporary closure of the intersection near where the accident happened. Several lanes of the intersection remained closed for several hours before being re-opened to through traffic.

“At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision,” explained Lamb.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the victim remained at the scene and was reportedly cooperating with Perris PD’s investigation, which is ongoing.
