UPDATE: Officials investigating deadly shooting arrest Hemet man, 22

The incident began on Florida Ave. just east of State St. around 3:10 p.m., when a Hemet police officer observed a grey Chevy Impala dangerously weaving in and out of traffic and passing other motorists on the wrong side of the road.

When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the unidentified Black male driver, he refused to yield and led the officer on a short pursuit that continued about one-tenth of a mile to the 100 block of Inez St.

After turning northbound onto Inez St., the driver stopped north of Depot Deli and west of Car Wash Depot. He then fled on foot from the Chevy, jumping onto the roof of a nearby apartment.

Within moments, more than a dozen officers converged on the scene and quickly surrounded the small, studio apartments where the man was trying to hide from officials.

Officers eventually coaxed the man down from the roof and he was detained without injury or further incident.

Officials determined the man was on parole and had several felony warrants for his arrest and took him into custody.

Officials have not released any information regarding the incident or man’s arrest and there were no reported injuries related to the incident.
