Redding sex offender arrested again after numerous reports of masturbating in public

REDDING — A parolee and registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal record was arrested once again in Redding last Wednesday evening, August 8. The alleged suspect was apprehended after allegedly masturbating and exposing himself to motorists and pedestrians during several reported incidents. One of the incidents involved a child who happened upon the naked man inside a bathroom along the Sacramento River Trail.

According to Redding Police Sergeant Brian Cole, 28-year-old, Redding resident, Daniel Fauston Bonnie, is “well known” to Redding officers and has been arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail seven times so far this year. In addition to prior arrests for robbery, indecent exposure, and other crimes, Bonnie has been arrested several times for removing his GPS ankle monitor and failing to register as a sex offender.

After receiving “multiple reports” of Bonnie masturbating and exposing himself at several locations covering nearly three miles near the Sacramento River, Redding police officers located and arrested Bonnie. He was later booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of indecent exposure, possession of methamphetamine, violation of parole, and two counts of violation of probation.

Authorities received the first reports regarding Bonnie around 4:15 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the area of Court St. and Eureka Way, regarding a man seen masturbating in public near the roadway.

Witnesses described the man as being in his mid-twenties and wearing black basketball shorts, a black shirt, and red underwear.

Later, around 5 p.m., officers received reports that a child had walked inside a bathroom along the Sacramento River Trail, at the east end of Travelled Way, and found a naked man inside. The victim provided investigating officers a description that matched those of earlier reports.

Despite searching the areas after the first two reported incidents, officers were unable to locate Bonnie at that time.

At around 6:20 p.m., officers again received multiple reports of a similarly described man on N. Market Street exposing himself to passing motorists, at which time officer located and detained Bonnie.

Two citizens subsequently identified Bonnie as the man they had seen exposing himself, at which time officers arrested Bonnie and transported him to jail.

After Bonnie’s most recent arrest, Sgt. Cole explained that Bonnie is required to register as a sex offender in the State of California for a prior indecent exposure conviction and is on parole for robbery.

Although Bonnie is required to wear a GPS monitoring system when not in custody he was arrested last January and again in May for cutting off his ankle monitor. He was also arrested last April for failing to register as a sex offender.

He was sentenced on all three of those cases for a total time of 176 days in custody.
