CASSEL: Couple arrested during residential burglary investigation

CASSEL — A couple with six warrants between them who were found to be in possession of stolen property and burglary tools was apprehended during a residential burglary investigation in Cassel, Friday afternoon, Aug. 17. The pair was arrested after reportedly fleeing from deputies investigating a residential alarm activation on the 40000 block of Cassel Dr.

Deputies responded to the home about 3:19 p.m., after receiving reports of the alarm activation. After arriving in the area deputies spotted a man, later identified as 28-year-old, Maurice Alessandro, fleeing from the area on foot.

Deputies set up a perimeter in the area and soon located a female, later identified as 28-year-old, Gloria Martinez-Winn and detained the woman while they continued searching for her companion.

Officials eventually located Alessandro hiding behind a garage at a neighboring residence and apprehended him without further incident. Investigating deputies conducted records checks on the pair and learned both had active warrants for their arrest for failures to appear in court on prior criminal charges, according to Shasta County Sheriff’s officials. Martinez-Winn had one warrant and Alessandro had five warrants.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies learned that the home where the alarm activation originated was owned by Alessandro’s mother, but the victim told deputies the pair did not have permission to be at her home, officials said after the couple’s arrest.

Deputies also located Alessandro’s vehicle parked near the residence and discovered stolen tools as well as tools commonly used to burglarize homes and vehicles.

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested the duo and they were booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding for their multiple warrants. Additionally, Alessandro was booked on suspicion of trespassing, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.
