Officers Taser and arrest man who attacked separate elderly victims in their Redding homes

REDDING –Officers responding to multiple reports of a man causing disturbances at several residences and attacking elderly victims Friday, afternoon, Aug. 17, had to deploy Tasers and physically subdue the violent and bizarrely acting suspect before arresting him. The violent attacks and subsequent arrest happened in the area of Olive Ave. in downtown Redding.

Redding PD officers responded to the area shortly after 4 p.m., after SHASCOM dispatchers began receiving multiple calls from area residents and victims reporting a man breaking into homes and attacking people.

When officers arrived in the area they located 23-year-old, Matthew Tyler Bosworth, of Redding. Bosworth “was acting very strange,” Redding PD officials explained in a social media release after the man’s apprehension.

“When additional officers arrived on scene, Bosworth became aggressive and forced an officer to deploy his taser,” wrote officials. Bosworth was subsequently detained while officers investigated the reported disturbances.

During their investigation, officers learned Bosworth broke into an elderly man’s locked home and began choking the victim without reason or explanation. Bosworth then fled from the residence and entered an elderly woman’s home and struck her with his fists before fleeing.

Based on their investigation, officers arrested Bosworth and he was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of several felonies; including burglary, elder abuse, resisting arrest with violence, and battery.

Officials have not released any known motive for the attacks.
