California Highway Patrol, along with firefighters and other emergency personnel, responded to the crash shortly before 1 p.m., after receiving reports of an injury collision involving several juveniles.

“The first arriving engine company reported a collision between a passenger vehicle and an ATV,” Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire spokesperson Tawny Cabral explained in an incident report. “There are a total of six victims; four with minor injuries and two with moderate injuries.”

Based on the serious nature of two of the victims’ injuries, officials requested two air ambulances to the scene to air-lift the two most injured victims from the scene. A short time later, Mercy and REACH Air Ambulances arrived in the area and landed at a nearby post office, about a mile and a half southeast of the accident scene.

“Two victims with moderate injuries were transported by air ambulance,” Cabral updated at 2:20 p.m. Witnesses said one of the air ambulances left flying toward Temecula, while the second one headed toward Murrieta.

In addition to the two victims life-flighted from the scene, one person with moderate injuries and another with minor injuries were eventually transported by ground ambulances to area hospitals.

The two remaining victims were evaluated by paramedics and declined further medical treatment at the scene, according to Cabral.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash and their investigation is active and ongoing.
