Officials investigating after woman’s body found in Yreka

YREKA — Officials are investigating after a deceased woman was found wedged between two residential fences on the 300 block of Lawrence Ln., early Monday evening. A resident who found the victim’s partially decomposed body later told investigating officers they were led to the gruesome find by the smell.

Yreka PD, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, and California Highway Patrol, responded to the scene about 7:15p.m., after receiving reports of a found body.

When officials arrived they confirmed a deceased woman was wedged in a foot-wide gap between two fences near a rear residential property line.

During their subsequent investigation, Yreka officers determined the victim was a white female, but could not make further identification or determine the victim’s age “due to the condition of the body,” YPD Chief Dave Gamache later explained.

Although Gamache said investigators have found no immediate or obvious signs of foul play, they have not ruled out the possibility.

The victim’s body has been turned over to the Siskiyou County Coroner’s office and officials are expected to conduct a post-mortem in the near future, according to Gamache.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information is available.
