Minor injuries reported after SUV hits tree near Four Corners

FOUR CORNERS — A driver escaped serious injury after plowing into a tree in the Four Corners area of State Routes 89 and 299, about four miles west of Burney. The solo-vehicle, minor-injury accident happened after the SUV reportedly suffered a mechanical malfunction, early Friday evening, Nov. 9.

CHP and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the area shortly before 5 p.m., after receiving reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. 911 callers reported the occupants were out of the vehicle and walking around after the accident, according to official radio traffic and a CHP incident log.

When officials arrived at the scene they located the wrecked vehicle, described as a white Ford Expedition, off the roadway against a tree. The driver was nearby, along with several witnesses and good Samaritans who had stopped to render aid and comfort to the victim.

It was not immediately known if the victim was transported by ambulance for medical treatment, but friends of the driver later reported the man was “bruised and battered,” but had been checked out at an area hospital and later released.

According to a long-time friend of the driver, the accident happened after the vehicle suffered a mechanical malfunction and the SUV’s power went out.

CHP is still investigating the cause of the crash and their investigation is ongoing.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 14 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
