UPDATE: Report of “suspicious person” led to Temecula officer involved shooting

TEMECULA — Sheriff’s officials have released a few additional details regarding this morning’s officer involved shooting in Temecula that sent one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No deputies or other citizens were injured in the shooting, which happened at 10:40 a.m., northeast of the intersection of S. Temecula and Redhawk parkways, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Robyn Flores.

Several hours after the shooting, at around 2 p.m., Flores reported from the scene that the call which led to the incident originated as a report of a suspicious person.

Flores did not provide further details about what the person was allegedly doing that led to the 911 call. She also did not specify that the subject had been shot, only that the person was injured.

“Officers arrived on scene and shortly thereafter an officer involved shooting took place,” Flores explained. “The suspect was injured and transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

“At this time this is an active investigation and no further information will be released,” said Flores.

The entire parking lot where the shooting happened remained cordoned off as of this update and in a second Tweet, sheriff’s officials wrote in part, “The following businesses are temporarily closed until the investigation concludes: Salon de Cheveux, AT&T, Postal Annex, and Bank of America”

“Investigators are still on scene and asking the public to be mindful that this is an active investigation,” the Tweet also explained.

Original Story: BREAKING: Officials at scene of Temecula officer involved shooting

TEMECULA — Details are beginning to emerge after an officer involved shooting sent a suspect to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries in Temecula. The shooting happened northeast of the intersection of S. Temecula and Redhawk parkways.

Authorities have released very few details regarding the shooting, which happened earlier this morning around 10:40 a.m., according to a Tweet and initial release of information by Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Media Information Bureau.

According to the Tweet, a suspect was transported to an area hospital with “non-life threatening injuries,” but officials have not yet specified the full nature or extent of the person’s injuries or what led to the shooting.

Much of a parking lot surrounding several businesses is now cordoned off with crime scene tape, and deputies are keeping anyone not involved in the incident away from the area, while more officials continue to arrive at the scene.

Businesses directly affected by the ongoing investigation include The Coffee Bean, Salon de Cheveaux, Postal Annex, Bank of America, and others in the immediate area, where countless police vehicles now sit, most with their emergency lights still flashing. An AT&T store sits between the other businesses and appeared to be the focus of much of the attention by officials at the scene.

As of this report, none of those businesses were open due to the heavy police activity and ongoing investigation.

According to a deputy at the scene of the shooting, a public information officer is currently headed to the location and will be providing additional details about the shooting as they become available.

“No further information is being released at this time,” according to officials; who have asked that citizens stay away from the immediate area while officials conduct their investigation, which is expected to last for much of the day.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
