MV Squatters who fled from deputies quickly captured

MORENO VALLEY — Two trespassing squatters who are both on probation learned the hard way that when confronted inside a home where they had no business being the best thing to do is to cooperate with investigating deputies and not to try to run from them.

“If you choose to run from the police, we suggest you try another city,” Moreno Valley PD officials wrote in a tongue-in-cheek social media press release after the mens’ apprehension. “Evidently our officers are star runners and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Just ask Avelino Torres Mora and Andrew García how it worked out for them today.”

Jail records indicate Mora and Garcia were arrested around 10 p.m., Sunday evening, Dec. 30, after they were caught squatting inside a vacant residence in the 13000 block of Persimmon Rd., just southwest of Cottonwood Ave. and Perris Blvd., in Moreno Valley.

Rather than wait to speak with deputies investigating reports of squatters at the abandoned residence, “they chose to bolt out the back, climb a block wall, and take officers on sprint down Perris Boulevard,” MVPD explained. This was “no problem for two Supermen in tan and green, because both were chased and both were caught.”

When all was said and done, Mora was arrested for resisting arrest, providing false information to a peace officer, violation of probation, trespassing, and an outstanding felony warrant for vehicle theft.

García was arrested for possession of methamphetamine for sales, possession of marijuana for sales, resisting arrest, trespassing, and violation of probation.

Both men were eventually booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on their various charges. Both alleged suspects remains in custody; with Mora being held without bail and Garcia held on $50,000 bail. Both are scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall of Justice, Jan. 3.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren
