Officials investigating in-custody death of inmate, 27

RIVERSIDE — Authorities have released few details but have confirmed they are investigating the death of an inmate who had been in custody at Riverside’s Robert Presley Detention Center. The man died Monday evening, March 11, according to officials.

Deputies and other detention facility staff members were first alerted to an inmate “in medical distress” around 9:15 p.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Wallace Clear later explained, saying the man was found inside his cell. 

Despite life-saving efforts by the facility’s medical staff, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has since been described as a 27-year-old male; however, his name has not been released, pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family.

The man’s death is under investigation according to Clear, who said no further information will be released at this time.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
