Paraglider airlifted after San Jacinto crash

SAN JACINTO — A paraglider was rescued from a San Jacinto mountainside and hospitalized today after crashing earlier this morning. The accident and remote area rescue happened at Soboba Paragliding and Speed Flying, in the 200 block of Soboba Ave.

Emergency personnel were first alerted to the accident around 10:45 a.m., after receiving reports of a paraglider who crashed into the mountainside.

When firefighters, paramedics, and other rescue personnel arrived they hiked to the victim’s location and determined the paraglider sustained moderate injuries and would need to be hoisted from the mountainside. Based on the circumstances, Cal Fire’s Copter 901 was soon dispatched to the scene.

Cal Fire updated around noon that the aviation crew airlifted the victim to the bottom of the mountain to a waiting ground ambulance. AMR then transported the person to an area hospital for further treatment of what Cal Fire described as moderate injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
