CHP, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire, and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash shortly before 6 a.m., after receiving reports of a rollover traffic accident.
The 911 caller, a big-rig driver who spotted the wrecked vehicle after the accident, reported the vehicle was “upright, with rollover damage,” according to a CHP incident log. The caller told emergency dispatchers he could not determine if anyone was inside the wrecked vehicle.
When the first officer arrived in the area more than 40 minutes later, they reported firefighters were already at the scene and had made their way to the wrecked vehicle, according to CHP’s incident log. Less than five minutes later CHP updated that firefighters had confirmed one person perished in the crash and requested coroner officials to the scene.
The victim has not yet been publicly identified, pending further investigation and notification of the person’s family.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials arrived around 7:40 a.m., and took custody of the victim’s body and the wrecked vehicle was later towed from the area.
Contacted for more information, CHP said their investigation is active and ongoing and requested that anyone who may have witnessed the deadly accident to contact CHP at (760) 772-5300. Callers can remain anonymous.
This is a developing story that will be updated as new information is available.
