Sunday morning’s arrest happened just after midnight, after a Hemet police officer spotted a grey Honda sedan in the area of Fruitvale Ave. and State St. The officer observed the vehicle was occupied by three people, including two men and a woman. When the officer conducted a record check on the vehicle’s license, he learned the Honda had been reported stolen.
The driver of the stolen sedan, later identified as Arzate, turned into the Hemet Vistas apartment complex, where the officer initiated a high-risk, felony traffic stop.
Hemet police officers arrested Jesus Arzate, 28, after conducting a high-risk, felony stop on a stolen Honda.
Additional officers, including a police K-9, converged on the scene and there were soon about a half-dozen officers stacked up behind the stolen car. Officers were seen holding the trio at gunpoint, with handguns, shotguns, rifles, bean-bag shotguns, pepperball rifles, and other lethal and less-lethal options.
Officers then began calling out the vehicle’s occupants one at a time, and all three were subsequently detained without incident. Officers later sent the K-9 into the sedan to verify that nobody was hiding inside.
At the conclusion of their investigation, officers arrested Arzate. The two passengers, a male and female, were later released without charges.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Hemet PD at (951) 765-2400. Callers can refer to incident file number 19-2767 and can remain anonymous.
