One dead, three hospitalized, after DHS head-on crash
DESERT HOT SPRINGS — A Desert Hot Springs man was killed and three other people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle, head-on crash Tuesday afternoon, April 16. The fatal accident happened near the intersection of Mountain View Road and 20th Avenue, in an unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs.

Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the crash around 2:15 p.m. When officials arrived they found three victims, including the man who passed away at the scene.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified the victim as 64-year-old, Douglas Binninger. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased about 15 minutes after the crash.
In addition to the man who perished at the scene, one person sustained major injuries, and two people sustained minor injuries. All three other victims were eventually transported to area hospitals for further treatment, Cal Fire later reported.
While officials worked at the scene, Mountain View Rd. was closed between Dillon Rd. and Clubhouse Dr. The road was reopened several hours later, after the conclusion of the initial, on-scene investigation.

During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.
Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
