Deputies assigned to the Eastvale Police Department, along with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the collision just after 8:30 a.m., Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Raemie Wood later reported.

When officials arrived they found the wreckage of two heavily damaged vehicles, later described as a grey Honda Accord and silver GMC pickup truck. Vehicle parts and debris were spread across River Rd., leaving both directions of travel blocked and impassable.

“The driver of the Honda Accord and both occupants of the GMC were transported to a local area hospital for injuries sustained as a result of the vehicle collision,” Wood explained.

Based on the circumstances and severity of the crash, Eastvale and Jurupa Valley PD’s Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.

During their preliminary investigation, deputies determined that just before the crash, the Honda was traveling northbound on River Road in the number one lane of traffic. At the same time the GMC pickup was traveling southbound in the number one lane of traffic.

For reasons not yet determined, the driver of the Honda “veered into oncoming traffic and collided into the pick-up truck,” according to Wood.

During their investigation, officials called for the temporary closure of River Rd. in both directions, between Kendra Ln. in Eastvale and Bluff St. in Norco. The roadway was re-opened about eight hours later, around 4 p.m.

Although the sheriff’s investigation is ongoing, officials have said alcohol impairment does not appear to be a contributing factor in this collision.
