Hemet woman, 61, killed after vehicle hit broadside

HEMET — A 61-year-old Hemet woman died after her small car was hit broadside by a pickup truck early yesterday evening, Sunday, June 9. Two other victims were hospitalized after the collision, which happened at the intersection of N. Lyon and Commonwealth avenues.

Last night’s deadly crash was the first of two fatal accidents in Hemet that happened less than six miles and barely four hours apart. The female victim of the second fiery wreck, which happened on Florida Ave. near Four Seasons, has not yet been identified.

City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with AMR and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the crash around 6:39 p.m., after receiving reports of a rollover collision involving two vehicles.

When officials arrived they found a silver Nissan Versa with heavy driver’s side impact damage in a field and a dark-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck nearby. A street sign was sheared off at its base and vehicle parts and debris were scattered throughout the area.

Despite life-saving efforts, the driver of the Nissan passed away from her injuries and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was later identified by coroner officials as Victoria Fleming. A coroner’s release indicated Fleming died at 6:50 p.m.

Two other victims from the collision were transported to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Their current conditions were not immediately available.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
