HEMET — Authorities in Hemet are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and a 10-year-old boy hospitalized with a gunshot wound, Thursday afternoon, July 11. The deadly shooting happened in the 400 block of S. Carmalita St.
A man on PRCS probation for felony evading police and weapons violations has since been arrested and charged in the case, after attempting to evade officers and ramming two police vehicles. Officers ultimately used less-lethal munitions to take the man down while apprehending him.

City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with AMR and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the area of S. Harvard St. and W. Mayberry Ave. about 5:45 p.m., after receiving multiple reports of shots fired, Hemet Police Lt. Jeff Davis reported today.
911 callers reported hearing as many as five gunshots and told emergency dispatchers that a man was found down on a sidewalk on Harvard St. According to callers, the man was unconscious and bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds, including a gunshot injury to the chest.

While responding to the scene, officers learned a second victim, described as a 10-year-old boy, had been transported by family members to Hemet Valley Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
Hemet police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting within moments of the dispatched call and found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Davis.
The victim, later identified as Michael Lujan, a 30-year old Hemet resident, was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center in critical condition, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
While officers quickly cordoned off the area of the shooting, as well as several streets surrounding the area, other officers responded to the HVMC, where they confirmed a boy was receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound.
According to his family, the boy had been visiting relatives at a residence on Carmalita St. where the shooting occurred when the shots rang out and the child was struck by gunfire. The juvenile has been listed in stable condition.
During their investigation, officers found a blood trail that led from where Lujan had been found on Harvard St., to Carmalita St., where both the deceased victim and the juvenile had been shot.
Witnesses on Carmelita St. who saw or heard the shooting happen told officers they heard a loud argument just before hearing multiple gunshots.
Based on information and witness statements from the scene, officers detained multiple people seen fleeing from the area, including four people who were transported to Hemet PD for further investigation and questioning.

As their investigation continued, officers developed leads and gathered information from witnesses that ultimately led them to identifying the alleged suspect as Robert Whitecloud Trujillo, 29, of San Jacinto.
Despite searching for Trujillo throughout the rest of the day and evening, officers were not immediately able to locate the alleged suspect.

On Friday evening, July 12, at about 10:15 p.m., officers spotted Trujillo driving on the Soboba Indian Reservation in San Jacinto, in the 22700 block of Soboba Rd.
“During the course of his arrest, Trujillo attempted to evade law enforcement personnel and rammed two police vehicles,” Davis explained.
After the crash, officers deployed less-lethal munitions, “which proved effective in taking Trujillo into custody,” said Davis.
According to Davis, Trujillo was expected to be booked on suspicion of murder and attempted, but the Lt. said additional charges are expected to be filed.
No officers were injured during the incident and arrest and Hemet PD’s investigation is ongoing.
