Woman killed in solo-vehicle Wildomar crash

WILDOMAR — A woman died after losing control of her vehicle and smashing head-on into a Wildomar tree Sunday morning, July 21. The victim was left trapped inside her wrecked car and passed away after being rushed to an area hospital, according to officials investigating the accident.

Deputies from  the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station along with other emergency personnel responded to Bundy Canyon Rd. near Oak Creek Dr. around 8:10 a.m., after receiving reports of the traffic collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Jimenez later reported.

When officials arrived they found a heavily damaged Toyota Echo that had plowed head-on into a tree.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota was trapped inside the mangled wreckage of her car and firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to cut the critically injured victim from her Toyota.

AMR medics then rushed the woman to Inland Valley Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The victim’s name has not been released, pending further investigation and notification of the victim’s family.

Based on the circumstances, members of Lake Elsinore Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into the cause of the collision.  

Traffic Team deputies determined the driver of the Toyota was traveling eastbound on Bundy Canyon Rd., when for an unknown reason, she crossed over the westbound lane.  As the Toyota careened off the roadway it struck a tree head-on and came to rest along the westbound shoulder of the roadway. 

During their investigation, deputies called for the full closure of Bundy Canyon Rd. in both directions and the roadway was reopened about five hours later.

Officials have not ruled out alcohol and/or drug intoxication as possible contributing factors in the cause of the crash, which is still under investigation.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
