Armed with two knives, Beaumont man fatally shot by officers
BEAUMONT — A man wielding two large knives during a domestic violence related incident in Beaumont was fatally shot by officers, after he refused to comply with their orders to drop the knives and advanced toward them while still armed.
The deadly shooting happened last night, Friday evening, Aug. 9, outside a private residence on the 600 block of Michigan Ave., a neighborhood located northwest of Pennsylvania Ave and the 10 Freeway.

City of Beaumont police officers were dispatched to the home about 6:30 p.m., after receiving reports of an “in-progress domestic violence incident” at the residence, Riverside Sheriff’s spokesperson Deputy Mike Vasquez later reported.
Witnesses later told media they had called 911 after seeing a bleeding woman down on the ground screaming for help, while the alleged suspect attacked her.

When officers arrived at the scene they encountered a man who exited his residence “armed with two large knives,” Vasquez explained.
According to witnesses, despite officers repeatedly ordering the man to drop the knives he refused to comply. Moments later, about half a dozen shots rang out.
“The suspect advanced toward the officers and an officer involved shooting occurred,” said Vasquez. “Officers attempted lifesaving measures and called for paramedics.”
Although paramedics arrived and rushed the alleged suspect to an area hospital, the man ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The victim involved in the incident was also taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries. She is expected to survive.
After the shooting Beaumont PD officials requested Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conduct an independent investigation of the deadly incident; at which time Central Homicide Unit investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The suspect’s name has not been released pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family, according to Vasquez.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per Beaumont PD’s policy and the officers’ names have not been released.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
