Motorcyclist, 22, ID’d after fatal MoVal crash

MORENO VALLEY — A Moreno Valley man died after a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and passenger vehicle in Moreno Valley Saturday, Sept. 28. The deadly accident happened at the intersection of Moreno Beach and Auto Mall drives, according to sheriff’s and Cal Fire officials.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Station, along with Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and AMR medics, responded to the location about 8:50 p.m., after receiving multiple reports of a major injury traffic collision involving a motorcyclist, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Gil Gonzalez reported after the fatal collision.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene within minutes and discovered a vehicle collided with a motorcycle rider, according to Gonzalez; who said, “The rider sustained major injuries and succumbed to those injuries at the scene.”

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified Sean Mata, 22, of Moreno Valley, as the rider who perished in the collision. A coroner’s report indicated Mata was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:52 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and stayed on scene for the investigation, according to Gonzalez.

Based on the circumstances, members Moreno Valley Sheriff Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and investigated this collision.

While officials investigated the cause of the crash, Moreno Beach Drive was closed between Auto Mall Dr. and Cottonwood Ave.

The investigation is ongoing and officials have not released any further details.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
