Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris Station responded to the reported strong armed robbery, after the victims called 911 to report the incident. Upon interviewing the victims, deputies learned the victims had met the two suspects via social media and had arranged to buy marijuana from the suspects. The victims met with the two suspects at a pre-arranged time and location, bringing with them a large sum of cash.

According to Sgt. Curt Harris, of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, “The two suspects robbed and assaulted the victims and fled the area with a large amount of money that belonged to the victims.”

Using information gathered by the initially responding deputies, the Perris Station’s Burglary Suppression Team (BST) quickly assumed the investigation. According to Harris, BST personnel located evidence confirming the suspects “used social media sites to lure the victims to the area of the robbery by posing as sellers of large quantities of marijuana.”

On Thursday, Jan. 14, following investigative leads, BST personnel located one of the suspects and served a search warrant at his residence. Sheriff’s officials identified the suspect as Donald Cofer, a 23-year-old resident of Perris.

Deputies arrested Cofer for his alleged involvement in the robbery. He was booked at the Southwest Detention Center for robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and violation of probation.
