Shots fired during Shasta Lake family dispute lead to arrest

CITY OF SHASTA LAKE — A Shasta County man was arrested after officials allege he attacked his brother with a blunt object while destroying his brother’s fence in Shasta Lake early Thursday evening, Nov 21.

During the violent encounter, which happened on the 13000 block of Beacon St., the victim discharged a firearm into the ground to stop the attack and scare his brother away, according to officials who investigated the incident.

Deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the private residence just before 7 p.m., after receiving reports of shots fired at the home, Shasta County Sheriff’s Sgt. K. Bodner later reported.

When deputies arrived at the residence they spoke with the victim, who admitted to firing a weapon during an incident involving his adult brother, later identified as 56-year-old, Terry Fannin.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, told investigating deputies that his brother attacked him “with a blunt force object, during an argument where Fannin was damaging a fence on the property,” explained Bodner; who said Fannin does not live at the home where the vandalism and attack happened.

As the argument escalated, the victim said he discharged a firearm into the ground “to scare Fannin away from the residence and stop the assault against him,” the Sgt. explained.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident, but declined medical attention.

Deputies searched the area, eventually locating Fannin at the Circle K gas station, at 4833 Shasta Dam Blvd.

“Fannin was interviewed regarding the incident and admitted to being at the residence destroying property and being involved in an argument with the victim,” said Bodner.

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Fannin and he was later booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
