Community invited to 38th Annual Redding Lighted Christmas Parade

REDDING — The 38th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade will be held in the downtown area of Redding on Saturday, Dec. 7. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 pm and is expected to conclude at 9 pm. The theme for this year’s event is Hometown Holidays, which was suggested by theme contest winner and $100 prize recipient Lynn Belvins, and is sure to bring a smile to hearts and faces of all those in attendance.

Redding’s Lighted Christmas Parade, hosted by the Active 20-30 Club of Redding, has been a holiday tradition for decades in downtown Redding. Entries from around the community will be decorated in twinkling lights while they cruise, march, dance, and ride down the main streets of Redding, lighting up a fun and festive evening for all to enjoy.

Each year a theme is selected and the entries are judged on creativity, use of theme in their entries, and of course, the lights!

In preparation for the event, road closures for the parade route will begin at 5:00 pm. All road closures will re-open at the conclusion of the event.

Staging Area Closures: Staging areas for the parade floats will include the following streets. These streets will be closed at 4:00 pm and re-open at the conclusion of the parade:

Oregon St. between Yuba St. and Shasta St.
Butte St. between Court St. and Oregon St.
Tehama St. between Court St. and California St.
California St. between Shasta St. and Tehama St.

Parade Route: The Parade will begin at California St. and Tehama St. The parade will travel south on California St., turn east on Sacramento St. , north on Pine St. and east on Yuba St. The parade will end at East St.

NO PARKING IS ALLOWED ON THE PARADE ROUTE. THE ROUTE WILL BE POSTED AS A NO PARKING ZONE SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR TO THE PARADE. ANY VEHICLES PARKED IN THE PARADE ROUTE MUST BE MOVED PRIOR TO 2:00PM ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 7th , 2019 OR THEY WILL BE TOWED.

Parade Route Detours: Motorist traveling into the downtown area will be detoured onto:

East St.,
Court St.,
South St.,
and Shasta St.

Temporary Stop Signs: Temporary stop signs will be placed at the intersection of Yuba St. and East St. This will make the intersection a four way stop.

Parking: The downtown mall parking structure will have limited parking before barricades are set in place for the parade, approximately 4:30 pm. Parked vehicles will not be able to leave until the conclusion of the parade. As a reminder RV’s will not fit in the lower level of the parking structure, and the north portion of the structure has been demolished. Parking will not be allowed on the parade route or in the staging areas.

Pick-up location: Parade participants can be picked up in the Cal-Trans parking lot located at Yuba St/Liberty St.

Alcohol Possession: As a reminder the Redding Municipal Code prohibits open Alcoholic Beverage containers in public, which includes the parade route.

THE REDDING POLICE DEPARTMENT ENCOURAGES ALL DRIVERS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA TO BE ALERT AND DRIVE SAFELY.

Trevor Montgomery, 48, moved in 2017 to the Intermountain area of Shasta County from Riverside County and runs Riverside County News Source and Shasta County News Source. Trevor spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He was medically retired after losing his leg, breaking his back, and suffering both spinal cord and brain injuries in an off-duty accident. During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
